As an organization, Shaping Haiti's Youth (SHY) prides itself on embracing various causes which reflect its Haitian roots. As part of our ongoing commitment to serve and help educate the young minds of Haiti, SHY was honored to support an incredible irrigation project out of the Southwestern Haitian peninsula, near the city of Jérémie. We are proud to present "PROJECT CHAMBELLAN".
WE PLAN TO PROCEED IN PHASES…
The keys to success will be three-fold. In the first step, SHY aims to provide immediate irrigation relief to the crop, as there is a scarcity of water in the region, eliminating the burden for the farmers to walk miles every day to source water and irrigate the crop by hand. In a second step, SHY wants to build a well near the crop to provide a steady stream of water to the crop, using automated systems and relying on the abundance of solar energy in the area. And finally, as the town of Chambellan itself is struggling to source water - and this is critical for self-care during the 2020 global public-health pandemic -, SHY will be working with its worldwide partners to provide a permanent water-sourcing solution for the area.
